Learn more by clicking here.

Day 1:  Sunday - The Basics, Finding Yourself, Joke Structure and Preparation

Get introduced to the basics of stand-up comedy and the jargon of the comedic industry before jumping into the deep end with your very own mini comedy set. Then, it's time to learn the 'Normal-Normal-Twist' technique, and developing your own original jokes, before trialling them on stage and giving them a polish.

Day 2:  Monday - Generating Content and Building Confidence

Learn to gauge your audience and how to recognise and manage taboo topics while learning confidence building/fear smashing techniques. You’ll also get input on your set from our guest comedian, Lehmo, meet the other SHKK alumni and develop more of your original material.

Day 3: Tuesday - Delivery and Controlling a Room

Learn to write a strong open to your comedy set. Tonight students will also have the opportunity to refine some of their own writing, and learn about the open mic circuit, the Australian comedy festivals, such as Adelaide Fringe and Melbourne International Comedy Festivals, as well as life after graduation, with a visit from our returning alumna, Kaylene Grant.

Day 4: Wednesday - The Close, Graduation Preparation and Photo Headshots

Anthony Littlechild - headshot photographer

Students receive portrait head and body shots from photographer and cinematographer, Anthony Littlechild.

Closing your set strong is this night's goal, as well as putting the extra polish on tomorrow night's graduation performance. You'll also model for professional headshots, that are vital for comedy event posters or even acting jobs!

Day 5: Thursday - Graduation Night and Performance

The moment you have been working toward! Perform your stand-up comedy routine in front of family and friends, conquer your fears and perform alongside three professional stand-up comedians. Watch previous graduation videos by clicking here.

I decided to do the course because sitting on the front row at comedy gigs terrifies me. I had an absolute blast. Brad and Morry are great coaches - on the sunday I started the course I had some funny ideas but really had no idea on how to deliver a joke on stage. I committed to trying to execute whatever they taught me to the best of my ability - and as a result of applying their advice feltlike I put on a pretty good show on stage.

An epic week. Exhausting, but wonderful. The team are incredibly supportive, they help you discover your personal brand of funny and give you the tools needed to perform it with confidence. Just dive in and do it, you will not regret it.

SofHKK's was without a doubt the most terrifying, soul crushingly amazing ride of my life. If not for this course I never would've fulfilled my dream of Stand Up. Morry & The Pro's give you all the tools without the sugar coating it to get you up on that stage. I've dreamed of getting on stage for longer than I care to admit but it was so easy to make excuses never take that step & have a go. This course takes away ALL the excuses to not do it & gives you all tools to take stand up further if you want or just tick it off that bucket list. Either way you won't die wondering & you'll have an absolute ball doing it. This was probably the scariest thing i've ever done, but being able to do it within a group, coached by some of the best of the best Aussie comedians was @#$%#^ amazing & I never would've or could've done it without this course. 6 Stars (5 just isn't enough)

If you have ever thought about doing Stand Up Comedy then go for it. It has to be the best experience in the world. School of Hard Knock Knocks absolutely fullfilled my expectations of what it's like to do comedy. They taught us so much and made it a safe and fun environment. Ben Horowitz and Morry Morgan have created a great workshop to learn comedy. With great Comedians for guidance. The journey was incredible. So get off your tousch and give it a whirl. See you on the circuit guys.

Very well structured and thought out. Clearly a strong method to their process. Really well suited to the aspiring comedian, those wanting to tick an item off their bucket list, and a really safe supportive space for those wanting to be better public speakers. Highly recommend.

A great intensive course that really prepares you quickly for performing in front of lots of people. Good training, personal feedback, advice from professional comedians, and very welcoming to beginners and advanced alike. Just remember to do the 2 minute sample 'set' before you turn up on day 1, it really helps with progress!

Meet Your Comedy Coaches

Chris Wainhouse - Resident Comedy Coach

Chris Wainhouse Comedian

The resident comedy coach is responsible for developing our nervous nobodies into confident comedians. New Zealand born, Brisbane raised, and globally travelled, Chris Wainhouse, has been in the comedy game for over 20 years. The son of a fundamental Christian mother, it should come as no surprise for those that know Chris’s material, that his views are somewhat different – after all, he called his most recent Melbourne International Comedy Festival show (MICF) ‘The AntiChris’. Yeah, he’s going to hell. Learn more about Chris by clicking here.

Lehmo - Celebrity Guest Comedian

Comedian Lehmo

The School of Hard Knock Knocks is not only about learning the skills required to become a stand-up comedian, but also connecting with some of Australia's most accomplished comedians and learning first hand how they overcame challenges and built their stand-up comedy career. Each month we invite a celebrity stand-up comedian to coach and perform with our students. In May we welcome the amazing comedian, Lehmo, one of Australia’s favourite comedians – both on stage and on TV. Star on Utopia, That’s Not My Dog, and a regular on The Project, comedian Lehmo’s comedy naturally dabbles in satire, showmanship, and current affairs. He’s also one of my favourite Aussie comedians, making this last show of 2018 all that extra special. Listen to his podcast interview.

Kaylene Grant – Returning Alumna

Kaylene Grant

At each course we invite a previous graduate (alumni) to perform at the School of Hard Knock Knocks graduation. In May it's Kaylene, who'll also be providing insights into the open mic comedy circuit, how to network within the comedy industry, and comedy advice post-graduation. So not only will you learn stand-up comedy in Melbourne, you'll start to build a network of comedians who are already performing in the comedy open mic circuit.
