Meet Your Teachers

Ben Horowitz – Resident Teacher

Ben_Horowitz_headshotBen Horowitz has played every possible room imaginable, and some that are not. Over the past 15 years, Ben has performed to audiences as large as 3000, and as small as three. He’s performed at comedy clubs, RSL clubs, and music festivals, alongside comic greats, like Greg Fleet, Chris Franklin, Brad Oakes, and the Nelson Twins. He’s headlined and MCed, killing it on stage and also bombing. And that’s what makes Ben an ideal comedy teacher – he’s experienced the best and worst the comedy circuit has to offer.

Brad Oakes – Guest Comedian

Brad_Oakes_headshotBrad Oakes is an actor, writer and stand-up comedian, who has worked on Australia’s most iconic comedy TV shows, including Hey Hey It’s Saturday, Comedy Company, Jimeoin, and Full Frontal. He has been performing stand-up comedy since 1989, and has performed on Rove Live, Hey Hey It’s Saturday, and in his own shows at the Melbourne International Comedy Festival. He has also directed other great comedians, including Corinne Grant, Lehmo, Geraldine Hickey and Harley Breen.

Gavin Sempel – Alumnus

Gavin Sempel graduated from the School of Hard Knock Knocks in 2016. At only 18 years of age, he was one of the youngest students to attend our course. However, what Gavin lacked in life experience, he made up for in determination. Two years later, Gavin has performed over 300 open mic events across Australia, performed his own Melbourne International Comedy Festival (MICF), and has even made it to the Victorian final of Raw Comedy. Gavin will be sharing his insights into the open mic scene, as well as his recent success at Raw Comedy.
